Cory is building a ramp for his school theatre production. It must climb a height of 60cm and have a slope of 10 degrees.

a) what distance will the ramp run along the floor?

B) what will the distance along the surface of the ramp be?

a)    Distance along the floor, D, is given by

tan (10) =  60  / D      multiply both sides by D

D * tan (10)  =  60     divide both sides by tan (10)

D  =  60 / tan(10)  ≈  340 cm

b) Ramp Length, R

sin (10)  =  60 / R

R  =  60 / sin (10)  ≈  345.5  cm
