In the array below, in how many different ways can we start with the letter A and move from letter to letter (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), to spell the word "ARCH"?

Start with the A. There is only one A so 1 way to get there.    

 

Once you leave the A, there are 2 ways to get to an R.  

 

Once you leave the R, there are 2 ways to get to a C.  

 

Once you leave the C, there are 2 ways to get to an H.
