1. A community park is shaped like a trapezoid with a height of 30 yd, a top base of 25 yd, and a bottom base of 33 yd. The park has a circular fountain whose radius is 4 yd.

What is the area of the park without the fountain? do not round

Use 3.14 for pi.

2. A volcano in the approximate shape of a cone has a diameter of 16 km and a height of 1.95 km.

Which estimate best approximates the volume of the volcano? Use 3.14 for pi and round to nearest whole number.

2.

Volume of cone = π * r^2 * h/3

volume of cone = π * 8^2 * 1.95/3

volume of cone = 131cm^3 (nearest whole number)

1)

Area of a trapezoid =1/2[ a + b] x h

A =1/2[25 + 33] x 30

A =1/2[58] x 30

A =870 yards^2 - area of the park.

Area of the fountain =4^2 x 3.14

A. of fountain = 50.24 - yards^2

Area of the park minus the area of the fountain:

870 - 50.24 =819.76 yards^2.

1.

area of trapezoid (park)

A = (a + b) ÷ 2 * h

A = (25 + 33) ÷ 2 * 30

A = (58) ÷ 2 * 30

A = 29 * 30

A = 870yd^2

area of circle (fountain)

A = π * r^2

A = π * 4^2

A = π * 16

A = 50yd^2 (nearest whole number)

area of park - area of founatin = area of the park without the fountain

870yd^2 - 50yd^2 = 820yd^2
