Jabar goes to the playground to play on the swings. The length of each swing is 1.75 m.

What is the distance traveled on one swing, from maximum height to the next maximum height, if the central angle of the swing is 1.4 rad? Give your answer to the nearest tenth of a metre.

Jabar decides to swing higher. If the distance travelled on one swing is 3.5 m, what would be the central angle in degrees? Give your answer to the nearest degree.

First one

The distance traveled  is  just  the arc length  of a circle with a radius of 1.75m  with a central angle of 1.4 rads

Distance  =  r * ( theta in rads)  = 1.75 * (1.4)  =   2.45 m  ≈  2.5 m

Second one

3.75 = 1.75  theta

theta  =  3.75  / 1.75   =  15/7  rads  =   (15/7) * 180  /pi  ≈  123°
