The density of lead is 11,300 kg/m3. If a bar made out of lead has a volume of 50 cm3, what is the mass of the bar in grams?

Density = mass / volume    solving for 'mass'

Density x volume = mass

 

11,300 kg/m^3  x  volume = mass    BUT in this example mass is in cm^3 ....let's convert THAT to m^3

 

50 cm^3  x   1m / 100 cm  x  1m / 100cm  x  1m / 100cm    =   50 / 1,000,000 m^3

 

11300 kg/m^3  x  50 / 1000 000    m^3   =  .565  KILOgram =  565 grams
