Seawater has a salinaty of 3.5%. If you have 125ml of regular water, how much salt should be combined with how much water to get a total mass of 125ml?
To get back to your question, for chemists salinity is typically quoted as grams of salt per 100 mL of water: that's the way w/v percentage is defined. BUT... them medical types just have to be different. They insist on quoting salinity as a w/w percentage, grams of salt per grams of water.
Hence my confusion....question did not state if it was 3.5% w/v or w/w
If we assume w/v then I would go with
3.5% x 125 = salt weight = 4.375 grams in 125 ml water
