Square root is a number that can be multipled by itself to get to a certain number (if that makes sense). For example, the sqaure root of 4 is 2 because 2 X 2 is equal to 4. An exponent is how many times a number is to be multipled by itself. For example, if 2 was supposed to be paired with 4 as an exponent, it would have to be multipled by itself 4 times -

(2 X 2 X 2 X 2). Hope that helped.

HAve a good day.
