A rectangle has an area of 342m2. The length is 1 meter longer than the width. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Let W be the width, then,

(W + 1) is the length.

But: W X (W+1)=342

W^2+W-342=0

W=-19 and W=18, so the width is:

W=18

L=18 + 1=19

Area=18 X 19=342m^2
