in the equation 6 divided by 2(1+2), would you apply the initial 2 to the parenthesis(as taught with the distributive property), resulting in a solution of 1; or would you divide 6 by that initial 2, resulting in a solution of 9?
Well technically, you would have to solve the entirety of the bottom seeing as parenthesees go first.
You also cannot get 9 even if you did solve by dividing by two first:
6/2(2+1)
3/(2+1)
3/3
1
