Do all variables equal 1 or just x? Without a number being able to fill it in

A variable can be anything...p, q, r, s, t, u, v! x, y & z are more commonly used!

I'm confused by the question. A variable is a digit that can be replaced by any number this can be x, y, or any other letter.

Note, Anonymous.....if x were always equal to 1, the Algebra books would only be about 1/10 of their current thickness !!!! (LOL!!)
