What value of x will give the minimum value of 2x^2-12x+3?

This is an upward -turning parabola

 

In  the  form  y  = ax^2 + bx + c.....the  x  value  that will give the minimum  is   -b / [2a]

 

So  we have  that     -b  =  12    and  a  =  2

 

So...the minium occurs  at  x  =    12 / [2(2) ] =  12 / 4  =   3
