for example if you get a table of values and it asks for the domain and range, do we need to list it in numerical order?

The domain and range are both sets. If you are listing all the elements in a set, then the order that you list the elements does not matter.

The set {2, 3, 1, 5} is the same as the set {1, 2, 3, 5} .

So no, you do not need to list the elements in numerical order.
