try using the photomath app, it gives you the answers and step by step how to do it.

x + sqrt(x^2 -2) = 2      Subtract x from both sides

sqrt(x^2-2) = 2 - x         Square both sides

x^2 - 2  = 4 -4x + x^2    Subtract x^2 from both sides

-2 = 4 - 4x

-6 = -4x

6/4 = x   =   1 1/2
