I forgot 0! Agh!

0 * "Anything" = 0

2 * 2 = 4

0 + 0 = 0

2 + 2 = 4.

You are right once again CPhill!

2, of course.

2 + 2 = 4

2 * 2 = 4

Let N be the number...so we have

N + N  = N * N

2N  = N^2     subtract 2N from each side

0  = N^2  - 2N     factor

0  = N ( N - 2)        setting each factor to 0, we have

N = 0

or

N - 2  = 0    add 2 to both sides

N  = 2

So...we actually have two numbers that work ......0 and 2    !!!!

That's OK , MathPeacock......the Guest might have only been referring to only positive integers......thus, your answer would be correct....!!!

Well, if that is the case, we are both technically correct, considering you also put the answer '2'.
