Unit cost     175 cents / 5 apples = ........ cents per apple

100 cents / (175 cents/5 apples ) = .........  apples for 100 cents ($ 1 )

5/1.75  = x / 1       cross--multiply

5   = 1.75x           divide both sides  by 1.75

x ≈ 2.8 apples for $1

Cost per apple =   1.75 / 5  =    35 cents
