4x + 5 = 2x- 7

 

Subtract 2x from both sides:

2x +5 = -7

Now subtract 5 from both sides:

2x = -12

Divide by 2 to get the value of x.

          -5      -5

3.) 2x = -12
     /2      /2

Answer:
x = -6

Check:
