Find the values of k for which the equation
2x2 = kx-3k2
has no real roots.
Thanks in advance
2x^2 = kx-3k^2
2x^2 - kx + 3k^2 = 0
For this to have real roots, we must have that
k^2 - 4(2)(3k^2) ≥ 0
k^2 - 24k^2 ≥ 0
-23k^2 ≥ 0
k^2 ≤ 0
This is only true when k = 0.........thus any other value of k will produce non-real solutions
