A piggy-bank has some 10-cent coins and one-dollar coins. The total value of the 10-cent coins is equal to the total value of the one-dollar coins. If there are 88 coins in all, how many 10-cent coins are there altogether?

Tip: How many 10-cent coins will make $1?

Let  x  be  the number of   10 cent  coins   and   88 - x  the  number of 1 dollar  coins

So

.10x =   1 ( 88 - x)

.10x  =  88- x

x + .10x = 88

1.1 x  = 88

88 / 1.1   = x  =  80       (10 cent coins)
