I was doing some maths revision and the clip I was watching told me the following:

(2y+1)^2 = 4y^2+4y

I understand how the 4y^2 part was achieved but I don't get how or where the +4y bit comes from.
Can someone please help me.

-Thanks

(2y+1)^2
(2y+1)*(2y+1)
2y*2y+1*2y+1*2y+1*1
4y^2+2y+2y+1
4y^2+4y+1

Ah thank you!
I keep forgetting when something in brackets is squared it's essentially two of the same brackets multiplied by each other.
