please explain how e to the power of pi i is equal to negative 1

I do not know if this will satisfy you but

 

\(e^{i\theta}\quad \text{can be written as }cos\theta+isin\theta\\ so\\ e^{\pi i}=cos\pi +isin\pi = -1+i*0 = -1\)
