Circumference=Pi x Diameter(Radius x 2)

8.5=3.141592 x D

D=8.5 / 3.141592

D=2.706 cm

Radius=2.706 / 2=1.353cm

Area=Radius^2 x Pi

A=1.353^2 x 3.141592

A=5.751 cm^2  area of the circle.
