I think that ou should slightly change it because an exponential equation has a variable as an exponent.

If you change it to:  3x = 27 and then show that since 27 = 33,  3x = 33 which shows that x = 3.

Since there so many 3s in that explanation, I suggest that you might use:  2x = 32  and since 32 = 25,  2x = 25, which shows that x = 5.
