Can somebody explain a little on factoring qudaratic expressions? You can make up a expression and explain how to factor it..would appreciate.
Let's say we have the expression \(x^2 + 8x + 15\).
We need 2 numbers that add to 8 and multiply to 15 (5 and 3).
Now, rewrite the expression: \(x^2 + 3x + 5x + 15\) (the order of the 3 and 5 doesn't matter)
Now, factor \(x^2 + 3x \) and \(5x + 15\): \(x(x+3)\) and \(5(x+3)\)
The equation is basically the sum of \(x(x+3) \) and \(5(x+3)\), so it is \((x+5)(x+3)\). (Notice how the constants in both terms are the numbers we chose initially (3 and 5). This can be used as a time saver once you get used to it.)
