with a little trial and error you can find that 15x^2+x-14 = (15x - 14)(x + 1)

if you mean what is the answer of 15x^2+x-14=0 you can see from the factors it's x = 14/15 and x = -1

Arr, I think I can do better than trial and error.
Look for two numbers that multply to 15*-14
and add to +1
That's really easy, it must be 15 and -14
Now split the middle term up into 15x-14x
that is
15x 2 + 15x -14x -14
now factorise in pairs

=15x(x+1) -14(x+1)
= (15x-14)(x+1)

Guest, When you enter 15x^2 could you do it like this please 15x then press the 'sup' button that is located above the smilies,
the curser will go where you have to put 2, then move the curser to the end and keep going.
And this is what you will get 15x 2
