(1 - x)(6x - 8) + 16 + 9x2

Multiply out the parenthesees.

6x - 8 - 6x2 + 8x + 16 + 9x2

Combine like terms.

14x + 8 + 3x2

Rearrange.

3x2 + 14x + 8

To factor this, split the middle term.

What two numbers add up to 14 and multiply to (3)(8) = 24 ? → 12 and 2

3x2 + 12x + 2x + 8

Factor a 3x out of the first two terms, and factor a 2 out of the last two terms.

3x(x + 4) + 2(x + 4)

Factor a (x + 4) out of both terms.

(x + 4)(3x + 2)
