m∠L  +  m∠P   =   180°

 

(14x - 22)°  +  (4x + 4)°   =   180°

 

14x - 22  +  4x + 4   =   180

 

18x + 18   =   180

 

18x   =   180 - 18

 

18x   =   162

 

x   =   162/18

 

x   =   9

 

Now that we know  x  we can find the measure of angle  P

 

m∠P   =   (4x + 4)°   =   (4(9) + 4)°   =   (36 + 4)°   =   40°
