We can't take the log of a negative number or zero, so ... x +5 must be > 0

Therefore we have 

x+5 > 0  subtract 5 from both sides

x > -5

So the domain relates to all the x values that are possible in this expression and that would be all "x's" greater than -5   .... we can write this as....

(-5, ∞)
