A = 20 000 (given)

 

 

a.)  for t = 3    P =  20 000 (1.3)^(-.234 (3))

                          =16600 (rounded)

 

b.) population is now 20 000   1/2 of this is 10 000    solve for  t    

                                      10 000 = 20 000 (1.3)^(-.234t)

                                       10 000 / 20 000 = 1.3^(-.234t)

                                              .5 = 1.3^(-.234t)       take log of both sides

                                             -.301 = -.234t  log (1.3)

 

                                                t =11.3 yrs
