what's 100-99+98=97+ ... + 4 - 3 + 2 - 1?

Notice that we can write this as the sum of 50 subtractions, thusly:

 

[100 - 99] + [98 - 97] + [96 - 95]  +.......+ [4 - 3] + [2 -1]  =

 

1 + 1 + 1 + .......+ 1  + 1       and we will have summed 1 fifty times....so.......

 

50(1)  = 50

I would start from the left ...each set of two numbers equals 1     2-1   4-3   etc    there are 50 sets of these numbers , so 50 is the answer
