its 9 because a negitive minus a negitive equals a positive number! so who ever said the answer is -9 you should go back to school.

(-7)-2=-9!

Type it on the calc.

When you take away a positive you make less,  so you make it more negative.  Proof:

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}\left({\mathtt{7}}\right){\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{2}} = -{\mathtt{9}}$$

Boom!  Who needs schooling now????

$${\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{7}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{2}} = -{\mathtt{9}}$$

It's not 5 or 9 it's -9
