For what values of x is the slope tangent to y=x^3+11x^2-x+17 equal to 0

 

Take the derivative  and set to 0

 

3x^2 + 22x - 1   = 0

 

Solving this gives us

 

x ≈ 0.045176      and   x ≈  -7.3785
