4 1/7 - 2 6/7   use  the "borrowing concept"  here....note:  1 = 7/7.....so we have

 

4 1/7   =  3 +  1 + 1/7   =   3 + 7/7 + 1/7  =  3 + 8/7

 

And now we have

 

3 + 8/7   -  (2 + 6/7)  =

 

3 - 2 + 8/7 - 6/7  =

 

1 + 2/7
