Given that an aquarium tank is 1/6 of water and when 2 gallons of water are added, the tank becomes 1/2 full, so 

x/6 + 2 = x/2         => x/2 - x/6 = 2         => 2x/6 = 2.

 

Thus, the total capacity of the aquarium tank be 6 gallons.
