help me expand this calculation so that I understand the result please. why is 1-(10/75) = 13/15 ?
Don't simplify 10/75
First, do 1 - (10/75)
(75/75) - (10/75) = 65/75
THEN simplify
13/15

CU's way is very good, but you could reduce 10/75 first if you wanted to.
we're starting with 1 – (10/75)
reduce 10/75 by dividing both top and bottom by 5 1 – (2/15)
since 1 = 15/15 (15/15) – (2/15) = 13/15
.
You could also see that 1 = 13/15 + 10/75
However, CU and Guest's method would probably be better.
You are very welcome!
