do you mean distributive property?? and it is where you have an equation like " 4(3x+4-3) " so you would make a box and outside to the side youd put 4 because thats the number youre multiplying by. for example: 

 

 

          

 

                                                                 

                                                                   3x                    +4                    -3 

3x * 4 = 12x

4x 4 = 16

-3 x 4 = -12
