Gavin graphs the parabola (x+1)2=−8(y+3) .

How does he proceed?

Drag a value, coordinates, equation, or word to the boxes to correctly complete the statements.

Gavin identifies that the vertex of the parabola is __________. The parabola opens __________, and the focus is __________ units away from the vertex. The directrix is ____________ units from the focus. The focus is the point ___________. The directrix of the equation is ___________.

Gavin plots the vertex and focus, and graphs the directrix as a dashed line. He then draws the parabola so that the focus sits inside the curve and the directrix does not intersect it.

options:

(-1,-3), (-1,-5), (-3,-3), 1, 2, 4, x=0, x=1, y=-1, y=-2, up, down, left, right

Graph your own parabola here.

https://www.desmos.com/calculator

Now use the graph to help answer your own questions.

If you want to continue the dialogue after that, then that is fine.  :)

Have you graphed the parabola?

If you have then you can read the vertex of the graph.

OR

You can read it all straight of the foruma.

Equation of a parabola.

\((x-h)^2=4a(y-k)\)

You need to do some of your own homework.

You have been given forumulas.

In this case it woulld bve quicker to do it yourself than to pester other people to do it for you.
