We need to find the radius......the area is given by

 

36   =  pi (radius)^2    divide both sides by

 

36 / pi  = (radius)^2     take the square root of both sides

 

sqrt (36 / pi)  =  radius  =   6 / sqrt(pi)

 

And the circumference is given by :

 

2 * pi * radius

 

2 * pi * 6/ sqrt (pi)   =

 

12sqrt(pi) ≈ 21.27  in
