In a circle, \overline{AP} is a diameter of length 17 and ¯PS is a chord of length 17. What is the length of chord ¯AS?

If possible, triangle APS  would be a right triangle with legs PS  and AS  and hypotenuse AP

 

But  the hypotenuse is always longer than either leg so this  triangle is impossible.
