Let XY be a tangent to a circle, and let XBA be a secant of the circle, as shown below. If AX = 16 and XY = 9, then what is AB?

x is AB

There's a formula, it's called the "tangent secant theorem" or something, I don't really remember. Anyways, in this case, the formula says that:

9^2=16x

So AB=81/16

Tell me if I'm wrong though, I might have remembered the formula incorrectly

XY = 9          AX = 16          AX = 16

(XY)2 = (BX)(AX)

81 = 16(BX)

BX = 51/16

AB = 1015/16
