Points A,B, and C are on a sphere whose radius is 5. If AB=BC=5, what is the longest possible value of AC?

AC will have the greatest length when angle  ABC = 90°

 

So

 

AC =  sqrt ( AB^2 + BC^2)  = sqrt ( 5^2 + 5^2)  = sqrt 50  =  5sqrt 2
