If 2 quarter circles are inscribed in a rectangle, and the area of the two 1/4 circles is 200, then what is the area of rectangle uncovered by the semicircles?
To answer this question I am using the diagram below...you can see that the side length of the rectangle is R the radius of the semicircle...ALSO the length is 2R. We are looking for the shaded area.
2 x 1/4 pi R^2 = area of semicircles= 200
so R = 11.28 2R = 22.56 so the area NOT covered is equal to 22.56 x 11.28 - 200 = 54.47
