1. From the 30 pictures I have of my daughter's first birthday, my digital picture frame will only hold 3 at a time. What if I just wanted to fill the first three places with my favorite, best smile and best smashing of the cake?

2. For a segment of a radio show, a disc jockey can play 7 songs. If there are 12 songs to select from, in how many ways can the program for this segment be arranged?

1. I cannot answer the first question.

2. Since order does not matter, we can arrange the order in any order. This is called a permutation.

\(30P12 = \frac{30!}{\left ( 30-12 \right ) !} \\ = \frac{30!}{18!} \\ = 41 430 393 164 160 000\)

∴ we have 41 430 393 164 160 000 ways.

Oops, wrong interpretation for question 2.

I meant:

12P7 = 3991680 ways
