In the diagram below, we have line AB is parallel to line CD, EF = FG, < BEF = 130 degrees + x degrees, and < AEG = x degrees. Find the value of x.

If EF is equal to FG, you know that the triangle is an isosceles. If BEF is equal to 130 degrees, EFG is also 130. You know that the whole triangle has 180 degrees, and the big angle is 130. 

 

180-130=50

50/2=25

so x is equal to 25

Angles GEF and EGF are congruent!!!

 

∠BEF = (130 + x)º           ∠AEG = xº            ∠CGE = (180 - x)º

 

∠BEF + ∠AEG = ∠CGE 

 

(130 + x) + x = 180 - x

 

x = 16 2/3
