Given is the family of functions f(x) = 1/2 x^2 + 2x + c

a. Take c = 16 and calculate the coordinates of the points of intersection of the accompanying parabola with the x axis?

b. What are the coordinates of the top of the parabola in a?

c. For which value(s) of c does the accompanying graph not have any points in common with the x axis?

a)

the equation of the x axis is y=0

so you need to know where

y = 1/2 x^2 + 2x +16     and  y=0   both at the same time.

What will you do next ?
