How many points of intersection are there between the graphs of the following equations:
y = |2x + 5|
y = |3x + 2|
There will be two points of intersection.....we can find them thusly :
2x + 5 = 3x + 2 and 2x + 5 = -( 3x + 2)
5 -2 = 3x - 2x 2x + 5 = -3x - 2
3 = x 2x + 3x = -2 - 5
And y = 2(3) + 5 =11 5x = -7
x = -7/5
And y = 2(-7/5) + 5
y = -14/5 + 25/5
y = 11/5
The intersection points are (3,11) and (-7/5, 11/5) = ( -1.4, 2.2 )
