If a + b + c = -2 and x + y = -9, what is 9x + 4b + 9y + 4c + 4a? I don't understand how to solve this. I need to assign each variable a number that makes the equation true.

Here is one easy answer:

a=0

b=0

c=-2

x=0

y=-9

9(0)+4(0)+9(-9)+4(-2)+4(0)

-81-8

-89

No matter what numbers you assign to each variable, the final result should always=-89

Example:{9 x+4 b+9 y+4 c+4 a, a = 1, b = 2, c = -5, x = -4, y = -5}

4 a+4 b+4 c+9 x+9 y = -89

a + b + c = -2    →  4a + 4b + 4c   =  -8

x + y = -9  →    9x + 9y  =  -81

Therefore............

9x + 4b + 9y + 4c + 4a   =

[9x + 9y] + [ 4a + 4b + 4c]  =

[ -81]   +  [ -8 ]

-89

cool cool cool
