The equation of the ellipse  is

 

(x - 4)^2          (y - 1)^2

______    +    _______    =   1

   16                     1

 

 

 

The focal  length ,c,  is given  by   √  [ 16 - 1 ]   =  √(15)  =  c

 

So.....the   distance between the  foci   =  2c   = 2 √15   units
