Glasses were sold at CVS. $12.00 for senior citizens and $14.50 for adults. There were 260 glasses sold for $3470 in total. How many total senior citizens glasses were sold?

S= senior cit glasses               revenue from =   $12 S

A = adult glasses =  260 -S     revenue from = ($ 14.50)(260-S)        Summed = $ 3470

12S + 14.5(260-S) = 3470       Solve for 'S'   the number of senior glasses sold

Lets suppose x = senior citizens and y = adults. So we create a system of equations:

\(12x+14.5y = 3470\)

\(x+y=260\)

Then we solve the system of equations:

\(12x+14.5y = 3470\)

\(12x+12y=3120\)

Then we subtract:

\(2.5y=350\)

Divide:

\(y=140\)

And then we can solve for x:

\(x=120\)
