y  =  (1/12)x^2   multiply both sides by 12

 

12y  = x^2

 

And we have the form

 

4py  =  x^2

4p  = 12

p  =3

 

The vertex  is  (0,0) ...the parabola turns upward   

The focus  is  ( 0, 0 + p )   =   (0, 3)

The directrix  is  y  =  -3
