The sum of three times the smaller number and bigger number is 51. The bigger number is two more than five times the smaller. Find the numbers.
We have this system
3x + y = 51 (1)
y = 5x + 2 (2)
Sub (2) into (1)
3x + 5x + 2 = 51
8x = 51 - 2
8x = 49
x = 49/8
y = 5 ( 49/8) + 2
y = 261 / 8
